At our doctor's visit this week we saw a nurse practitioner for some tests, we were told that if baby comes now nothing will be done to stop labor because I am far enough along that if he comes early he will be fine. We found out that the baby is head down right now, but he hasn't dropped yet meaning he is "floating" as they called it ... which explains the low pressure I have felt and the sharp low pains are probably his little hands stretching out. As for baby's heartbeat, it is good and strong and my blood pressure is looking good and baby is measuring right on. Now our weekly appointments begin, we meet the doctor next week for a quick check on mom and baby. We plan to make a list of all our labor/delivery questions so that we are on the same page as the doctor when the time comes, which is fast approaching.
After my appointment we went to Target to get some baby items that I was getting worried about not having. We now have diapers/wipes, a monitor, sleepers, pacifiers, and receiving blankets for our baby! I can breath a lot easier now. I think we are "prepared" (at least with the essentials) if he decided to come early, and if not then maybe I will get around to the supplies I need - some nursing gear for instance. I know we will probably have to go on a trip after he is born to get some things we forgot or need more of. But overall if our baby came today we could do it!
At 36 weeks, this is how my belly bump is growing ...
But do you remember when I was 24 weeks pregnant...
Can you see the difference?
Wondering what baby is up to?
- Mr. Baby continues to put on weight each week. This layer of fat will help baby regulate his body temperature after leaving the climate-controlled womb. Baby will be about 15 percent fat at birth.
- His gums are firm with ridges that look somewhat like teeth.
- He has definite patterns of sleep and wakefulness—opening his eyes while awake and closing them while asleep.
- Baby will become alert and turn his head toward light and sound just as a newborn would.
- It is estimated that at 36 weeks baby is around 18½ inches long and nearly 6 pounds.
Wondering how pregnancy is?
- How far along: 36 weeks
- Total weight gain/loss: +23 pounds (my last appointment I had gained nothing, this appointment 7lbs! Something is defenitely growing!)
- Maternity clothes: I just bought my first pair of maternity pants! I know I am so close to the end, I wanted to just wait it out, but basketball shorts just don't fit every occasion so I had to do it.
- Stretch marks: None!
- Sleep: Not too bad, I usually wake up twice in the middle of the night for a bathroom trip. It usually takes me a little while to get back to sleep, but for the most part the exhaustion of pregnancy is helping me forget about being uncomfortable, resulting in a relatively sound sleep.
- Nausea: It is pretty random, most days are great but some days I will just have a wave of nausea hit me.
- Movement: I have been feeling movement very very low (painful movement), so he is defenitely getting ready to meet the world!
- Food cravings: Veggies! Squash and zucchini sound so good. Yes I know I am weird, and yes I know when you look at this post mom you will laugh.
- What I miss: Not having to hold my belly up when I walk, to give it the extra support. And I miss not having to prepare myself for the giant lunge I have to make every morning when I am trying to get out of bed, going from lying down to sitting up to standing is not an easy process anymore. And I miss my balance, it feels off lately.
- What I am enjoying: Getting Baby Stuff! This week I got the diaper bag and stroller we ordered. And we made a trip to Target for some baby shopping, my favorite!

I am waiting for that extra burst of energy some women have, so that I
can start all that "nesting". But lately it's just eating that sounds good.
Fortunately, my cravings have been pretty healthy.
