Martin vs. Stanger Traditions

When I was growing up around Christmas time I remember going around to historical homes in Frederick learning a bit of history, eating snacks, and making a craft; as part of the Museums of Candlelight Tour/Event that happened in Frederick every year. I was a little old when we started going and my kids have even more fun. Having them experience my childhood memories to the fullest is one of my favorite things.

Connor and Bella got to come this year, since the crafts are geared to school aged children.
We got to make candles from beeswax, cloth angels for the tree, nail hole ornaments, clove oranges, Christmas Cards, pine cone sparkle ornaments and more.

We also got to meet Father Christmas or der Weihnachtsmann in German.

Of course some of us couldn't not take advantage of the wintry conditions, especially it being our first snow and all...

Drinking Hot Spiced Cider and Peppermint Hot Chocolate was the icing on the cake!

After I spent the afternoon out enjoying our Martin Tradition.
Which Shea totally has to come with next year all this history would totally be his thing.
(Sorry babe you were stuck babysitting.)

Then we spent the night baking sugar cookies, a Stanger tradition.
Mixing and taste testing and Baking and all!

(Of course poor Piper couldn't help because she wanted to eat the dough and we were worried about her egg allergy, so we coudn't let her. Fortunately she got to have some fresh from the oven!)

And I am fairly certain at some point in the baking festivities the pillsbury dough boy exploded all over our kitchen, and after a huge clean up that night he did it all over again that morning in the midst of icing making. I sure hate that boy.
